My path from special operations to the mindfulness space might seem unexpected, but it’s deeply connected. My military service taught me the importance of mental toughness—but also the cost of unprocessed stress, trauma, and disconnection. Mindfulness was a lifeline that helped me heal, and it’s now a cornerstone of how I live, lead, and serve.
I specialize in helping individuals and organizations build emotional resilience, cultivate grit, and lead with compassion and clarity.
Whether I’m speaking to a corporate team, working one-on-one with an executive, or guiding a mindfulness session, my goal is the same: to help people show up with more purpose, awareness, and strength.
Born in South Africa, raised in the United States, and deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, off the coast of Somalia, and Panama, my journey has taken me all over the world.
I grew up in Ruston, Louisiana, and was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy, where I earned a degree in Mathematics before completing a Master’s in Operations Research at the Naval Postgraduate School.
Throughout my travels, I’ve learned that every interaction is a chance to build trust, challenge the status quo, and make life better for my family, my teams, and everyone I encounter.
I’ve served in some of the most demanding environments on earth, leading teams through complex missions requiring clarity under pressure, decisive leadership, and unwavering trust.
I’ve commanded special operations organizations ranging from 16 men to over 2,500 people. Leading through high-stakes, high-intensity situations required balancing strategy, personnel, logistics, and mission execution on a global stage.
Being a Navy SEAL Commander taught me how to stay calm under fire, how to make decisions when time is short and stakes are high, and most importantly, how to lead with humility and purpose.

Leaving the military at 43 wasn’t about walking away from service. It was about choosing a different kind of mission.
After retiring, mindfulness became the tool that helped bring stillness to civilian life. What began as a personal practice evolved into a new purpose—to help others lead and live with clarity, calm, and compassion.
Today, I lead Macaskill Consulting, deliver keynotes globally, co-host Men Talking Mindfulness, and share insights daily on LinkedIn. My work is actionable, built on experience, and dedicated to helping others.

After years of deployments and constant movement, my wife and I made the decision to raise our three children in Colorado. Whether it’s reading, adventuring, sharing quiet mornings, or simply being present, time with my kids is my favorite place to be.
I’m a Christian, and my faith is a steady compass guiding how I parent, lead, serve, and show up. The values I leaned on in combat are the same ones I bring to the dinner table.
My beliefs remind me that strength is found in humility, compassion, and service to others. At home or at work, the goal stays the same: lead well, love deeply, and leave things better than I found them.
